Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation (coming too quickly) is one of the most common sexual problems faced by 25 to 30 percent of men of all ages, at some point in their lives. The condition is described as the inability to delay ejaculation to a point when a man orgasms before he wishes to do so. The negative effects of premature ejaculation will vary depending on the individual but can significantly diminish a man's self-confidence.

A satisfying sexual relationship is important for any healthy, sexually active couple. Therefore premature ejaculation can greatly impact on relationships on both physical and emotional levels, leading to dissatisfaction, disappointment and other problems. Men often find it difficult to talk about their sexual problems and may delay seeking help. Instead they start avoiding sex and become distant from their partners for fear of embarrassment or feelings of failure.

Through counselling men can better understand how their bodies work and how they can improve their sexual performance and reduce their anxiety.

I have been a telephone counsellor for several years and have spoken with men all over Australia who have some form of premature ejaculation. Most of them are fairly young and usually don't have physical problems; they often just suffer from some sort of performance anxiety. Premature ejaculation can manifest itself in men of all ages, even those who previously enjoyed a good, healthy sex-life.

I believe that treating premature ejaculation with medication is a last resort. Various techniques and exercises have been developed over the years and with my experience as a trained sexual health therapist I can provide knowledge, skills and strategies to help my clients with their performance.

Telephone counselling is another convenient way of accessing therapy and provides a confidential and safe environment. It has proven very effective for most of my clients who appreciated the personal attention they received.
